ENDOLA – The Roads Authority yesterday commissioned 13 gravel roads in Omusati and Ohangwena regions to the tune of N$94.2 million.

The access roads were constructed in partnership with the German Development Bank.  The commissioned roads will provide access to remote areas in the two regions. The official ceremony was held at Endola in the Ohangwena region.

Speaking at the occasion, RA CEO Conrad Lutombi said the RA would continue to take development to all corners of Namibia.

“The Roads Authority will adhere to the principles of enhancing rehabilitation and development of all sectors, as well as maintenance of roads infrastructures as the priority, which could help to the country reduce poverty,” he stressed.

He said the government, through RA, is committed to improving roads of the Ohangwena and Omusati regions.

Previously, members of the community and learners in those areas were forced to cross through flood plains to get to schools or access service providers, as most of the areas get flooded.

The roads were constructed by Ondjove Trading CC, Eponga Trading CC and Moza Investment CC.

Also speaking at the function, the governor of Ohangwena Walde Ndevashiva said communities have for long struggled to access essential services due to floods, which have often restricted access to necessary services such as schools for their children and medical facilities for the communities. “I am also happy to mention at this platform 1 118 skilled and unskilled people were employed on the project,” he said. Ndevashiya thanked the RA for its commitment to provide jobs to the residents of Ohangwena region.

Councillor for Endola constituency Ferdinand Shifidi said this initiative by the RA came at the right time, where people need access to roads to school, health facilities and other services providers.

Nine of the gravel roads was constructed in Ohangwena, while four were constructed in the Omusati region.
