Rally-X is the latest thrill on the motorsport scene, and after it burst onto the circuit last year, the Windhoek Motor Club (WMC) staged its first event this month at the Tony Rust Track,  with a surprisingly enthusiastic turnout of cars, bakkies and quads.

Classes were divided into 4×4 rally cars, rally bakkies, 4×4 production, 2×4 production and eight quad entries. With an exciting combination of high speed dicing on tar coupled with the nailbiting gravel section, spectators were well entertained.

Some ‘hard core’ motorsport entries stepped up for the challenge and teamed up with navigators, some of which were ‘die hards’, whilst others were ‘rookies’. But everyone held on for dear life to the end as the cars blasted their way over the gravel and race track section in a chase for the best time of the day.

The guy to beat in the Class 4×4 rally car section was Wilro Dippenaar with his lady friend Lee-Ann Coetzee co-driving, and clocked the fastest time of 00:03:34. The Open bakkie class was won by Rian Kritzinger with co-driver Ian Stander, who put on an impressive performance, and dicing to the max saw runner up Jandre Dippenaar and Jaco Grobler thundering into second slot.

The 4×4 Production Class was won by father and daughter team, Andre and Chane Havenga – Best Time, whilst Richard Slamet teamed up with Wietz Coetzee to win the 2×4 production class in his Bantam bakkie. Marnus Byleveld floored the quad bike Class.

The day was well organised,
