The development of Namibian cricket is expected to receive a significant boost in the near future after the Raymond van Schoor Cricket Foundation hosted a very successful fundraising gala dinner on Friday evening.
The Raymond van Schoor Cricket Foundation is a charitable organisation that aims to assist young Namibian cricketers to fulfill their dreams and live out their passion by developing their talent as cricketers.
The foundation successfully raised N$100 000 through an auction during the gala dinner attended by 150 supporters on Friday. The event was the first fundraising event after its launch in February this year.
Auctioned items included the famous number 27 national team jerseys of the late Raymond and an autographed picture of the deceased with the Namibian cricket team.
Raymond, who represented Namibia since 2002 and played in the U13 national team, tragically passed away last year.
In remembrance of Raymond, Zandré la Cock established the foundation with Cricket Namibia president Richard Frankle and national team cricketer Sarel Burger as co-trustees.
The Raymond van Schoor Cricket Foundation aims to raise additional funds this year through a cricket tourney for U11 and U13 teams, in addition to a golf day.
The trustees further invite everyone to help and assist in making a difference in children’s cricket careers and give them the best to achieve their goals.
The foundation initially focuses on U11 and U13 players, who plan to follow in
Raymond’s footsteps and remain dedicated, motivated, talented and chasing their dreams of becoming successful cricketers at international level.
Raymond was one of Namibia’s most decorated cricketers in recent history.
First achieving national colours for the U13s in 2002, ‘Razorblade’ went on to play for every junior team until earning his first senior national team cap in 2008.
From that day onwards, the versatile Van Schoor collected many accolades for his native country at international events while proving to be an essential member of the squad, which he skippered for a brief stint during 2013 and 2014. His exceptional performances earned him the prestigious award of being voted Namibian cricketer of the year.
The trustees of the Raymond van Schoor Cricket Foundation are always excited to share and discuss any ideas on the development of young cricketers with anyone interested in joining the course in making a difference. They can be contacted @rvscricf@iway.na.
