RC Races let rip at “The Dirt Farm”

Home National RC Races let rip at “The Dirt Farm”

The sound of high pitch Radio Control nitro engines was music to the ears for the huge turnout of entries, who enjoyed a day of full blown adrenalin pumping action last Saturday, when the SKW Off-road RC Club (SKWRCC) officially opened and inaugurated its all-new world class raceway.

The new raceway was filled with branded gazebos, screaming cars and loads of people who were entertained by the four completing classes, namely Nitro Truggy, Nitro Buggy, Monster Trucks and electrical models

Jaco Kotze from M&Z Motors who is one of the main sponsors officially cut the ribbon. The new National Championship season was announced for 2015, with a total of 11 events planned for next year, of which six will count for the Nationals. Two “Public Open Days” are also scheduled as to promote the sport and assist people interested in the sport.

A total of 12 Nitro Truggies entered Saturday’s race at the end of the day it was Karl-Heinz Eisenberg in 1st, Ralf Klein in 2nd and Cedric Brand clinched the 3rd spot.

The Buggy section was jam-packed with seven entries for the day. Guido Koch snatched 1st place, with Norbert Piehl in 2nd and Stan Godfrey in 3rd.

With six Monster Trucks in play, the action was on from the word go! Once again Karl-Heinz Eisenberg clinched the 1st place, whilst first-timer Radimar Karsten came second and Ekko Eisenberg landed a 3rd over all for the day.

Four very fast electrical models chased each other around the new raceway.

At the end it was Guido Koch as winner, Cedric Brand in 2nd and another new-comer, Ruan Viviers in 3rd.

Many new participants entered for the event, but it was the return of the “old-timers” like Norbert Piehl, Guther Klein and Pierre Gous that indicated that the club is heading in the right direction. Many more have already indicated that they will join and the 2015 season looks extremely promising!

The club, which started back in 2004, decided to upgrade the raceway to adapt to the new international standards of the sport. A total of nine weeks and many hours of hard work was put in from ‘RC Wheels For All’ team who designed and rebuilt the track. The effort was paid off with a record amount of entries and spectators for the day. The track, estimated at about 430 meters now caters for all aspects of the sport.

A well balanced mix of fast straights, big jumps, rhythm jumps and tricky corners, challenged drivers technically prepare their vehicles for racing. “A true driver’s track” as one of the competitors called it.

The next event will take place on 4 October 2014. Entry to these events is free of charge, and the club extends an open invitation to everyone to come and join in the fun! “See you in the dirt!”

Lots of excitement and a brand new Radio Control dirt track was the highlight for the big turnout of spectators and entries who enjoyed an exciting new chapter in the SKW Off-road RC Club which inaugurated its re-vamped facility on Saturday. (Photos SmitBiz)
