WINDHOEK – The Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP) yesterday suspended two of its youth league leaders, Steve Kevanhu and Marvin Veseevete who are responsible for Mobilisation and Political Orientation and Information and Publicity respectively.
RDP secretary general Jesaya Nyamu confirmed the suspensions, telling New Era that the two have been suspended for a period of two months pending further investigation. The two were found guilty on several charges, including sowing seeds of factionalism and bringing the party and its leadership into disrepute. The suspensions come two days ahead of the RDP Youth League Congress in Keetmanshoop slated to take place tomorrow.
However, the two youth leaders have reponded to the suspension with accusations that the RDP leadership is acting contrary to party policy and constitutional directives. “We do not know what is happening, all we got is a call from the head office to collect our suspension letters,” said Kevanhu, adding that he does not even take the suspension seriously since correct procedure were not followed. Veseevete said they believe that they are being victimise, because they have been very vocal in the party.
“This is a clear indication that we are being victimised.” Veseevete further accused the party leaders of mismanaging money. “Where is the money going, we have been asking for financial reports from the top bras, but up to know we got nothing,” he charged defiantly. He also accused the top brass of interference in youth league matters. “We are supposed to run the youth league, but it seems that the top bras is running the youth league for us,” he said.
