The Bank Windhoek Long Course Gala 4 took place at the Olympia swimming pool in Windhoek last weekend, and saw three records tumbling.

Alexander Skinner (Dolphins) shattered the longstanding record of Heiko Horn in the 200m freestyle in the age group 17-18, bettering the previous record of 1:59.10 with a much improved time of 1:58.63.

His exploits earned him first place on the weekend’s FINA list with 635 points while the youngster also recorded the second overall best performance on the FINA points list of 632 in the 50m freestyle with a time of 24.36s.

Philip Seidler (Dolphins) improved the 800m freestyle record of Quinton Delie in the age group 17-18. Shelving the old record of 9:11.10 to 9:00.19, he also earned a 5th place on the FINA list with 586 points.

Daniela Lindemeier (NSA) earned herself a 3rd spot on the FINA list for her 50m breaststroke with 613 points. The gala delivered some good swims and many swimmers improved on their personal best times.

Caitlin Botha (Dolphins) swam six events with a great improvement of 15.96 in the 200m individual medley. Some of the other huge improvers were Curtis Slinger, Tristan Feldman, Lars Fischer, Corne le Roux (all Dolphins) and Leandro Roux (NSA).

A total of 113 swimmers participated on Friday and 102 on Saturday. This was the last gala that swimmers were able to use to qualify for the Namibia National Championships and the level galas in South Africa.
The 4-day Bank Windhoek National Championship will be staged at the Olympia municipal pool on February 25.
