WINDHOEK- Red Bull Namibia launched their first Red Bull Music Academy workshop in Windhoek recently.
A number of talented Namibian Artists such as Lize Ehlers, Shishani, Big Ben, Black Vulcanite and Famaz Attak, were among the invited guests along with media to find out more about the Academy. A world-travelling series of music workshops and festivals, the Red Bull Music Academy is a platform for those who make a difference in today’s musical landscape. Two groups of 30 selected participants, from producers, vocalists to DJs and all-round musical individuals from around the world come together in a new city each year for two weeks worth of recording sessions, lectures by musical luminaries, collaborations and performances in the city’s best clubs and music halls.
Leading the exclusive launch was Richard Rumney, Manager at Red Bull Studio in Cape Town along with Jullian Gomes, talented DJ and previous participant of the academy. The Academy began in 1998, and has been traversing the globe since, from Berlin to Cape Town, São Paulo, Barcelona, New York and beyond, producing and establishing artists around the world. Rumney went on to encourage Namibian artists to participate in this once-in-life time opportunity, which proved to be a success.
Namibian singer, Lize Leandra, expressed her excitement saying, “This is an incredible networking and learning experience. I am very excited to apply and possibly attend the academy,” while Shishani shared the following; “I am glad Namibia has been targeted for talent scouting, and it’s about time! This is a great initiative and I will definitely apply for the music academy. It won’t be long before the world knows Namibia is here!”
Following the launch artists and media were treated to a DocuFilm titled What difference does it make?, a film about making music and an inside look of the passion that drives it. On Friday, 28th February 2014, all artists were invited to join Club Night at Vibe, where Gomes performed a terrific DJ set, that Windhoek has not seen in a while.
