WINDHOEK – Katutura glamour football club African Stars moved within touching distance of title rivals Black Africa at the summit of the coveted MTC Premiership log standings after back to back wins in the weekend’s action.
Starlile defeated a defiant Eleven Arrows 2-1 in a tightly contested encounter at the Sam Nujoma Stadium in Windhoek yesterday. Burly striker Gazza Kazeurua and free-scoring midfielder Boetietjie Seibeb netted a goal apiece after a goalless stalemate going into the changeover, while Revin Fischer pulled back a consolation goal for the seasiders.
On Saturday, a three-goal jamboree in the 2nd half by enterprising young winger Joselyn Kamatuka, Cameroonian midfielder Eddy Maungomou and veteran playmaker Boetietjie Seibeb gifted African Stars a 3-0 win against a hapless LHU Blue Waters outfit at Windhoek’s Independence Stadium.
The victories lifted the Reds into pole position while Woody Jacobs’ ambitious soldiers also made a serious statement regarding their title credentials in the process.
In yesterday’s action, Tura Magic recorded their second consecutive stalemate within a space of 24 hours when Timo Tjongarero’s young brigade were held to an uninspiring 1-all draw by visiting Blue Waters.
Elsewhere, Eduardo Eiseb’s lone strike was enough to propel Citizens to collect maximum points over the weekend when the league’s new boys easily waltzed past United Stars, hot on the heels of Saturday’s comprehensive 3-1 win against Julihno Sporting, courtesy of strikes by Eric Narib, Tjiuana Tja-Tjinotjiua and Rudi Khairiseb
On Saturday, Tura Magic and coastal visitors Eleven Arrows cancelled each other out in a dull goalless stalemate.
In other action, all the traumas of the last couple of days were temporarily put aside, at least for the time being, as troubled United Stars surprised friend and foe to see off the Mighty Civilians by 2 goals to 1. United playing personnel have been embroiled in an ugly war of words of late with club officials over unpaid salaries.
Julihno’s woes continued after the league rookies suffered their second consecutive defeat going down 2-0 against a resurgent Civics in yesterday’s action at Windhoek’s Independence Stadium. Uaarurako Uahupirapi and Sadney Uri-Khob were on target for the Civilians.
