WINDHOEK – Local football referees Reinhold Malima and Eneas Shikongo are heading to Maseru, Lesotho for the COSAFA Region Referees Development Course.

The course will start next week Wednesday and has attracted a total of 25 referees and assistant referees that will  be introduced to the aims of the regional referees course and the amendments to the Laws of the Game 2013/2014. Moreover, the course will deal with topics such as the qualities of a referee, positioning with ball in play; penalty area incidents, match report writing and the assessment of the severity of offences, careless and reckless, as well as the use of excessive force by players.

There will also be a physical fitness sessions and presentations on nutrition and match-fixing whereupon the course ends with the announcement of referees and assistants that will do duty at the upcoming COSAFA Under-20 championship in Lesotho, starting on the 3rd of next month.

Zimbabwe’s Felix Tangawarima and Sihlongonyane Mangaliso of Swaziland are to facilitate the course. The COSAFA Referees Committee is chaired by NFA President John Muinjo. Also, two Namibian referees will be in Cairo, Egypt in December to attend the CAF Elite A-Referees course. Referee Reinhold Shikongo and assistant referee David Shaanika will attend the course from December 1-9, 2013.
