Reggae icon Hanana to get his flowers

Namibian reggae pioneer Steven Hanana will be honoured by members of the Omuthiya community and a few staff from the Ministry of Information, Communications and Technology (MICT) Oshikoto region ahead of his 56th birthday on 12 December.

Hanana, a veteran of the liberation struggle and one of the country’s most influential reggae artists, has left a lasting mark on Namibia’s music scene and continues to inspire younger musicians. Born in 1969, he now lives in Omuthiya, where he is admired by fans and fellow artists alike.

Ester Noongo, one of the MICT Oshikoto staff involved in organising the celebration, said, “As fans of Steve, we deeply appreciate his music and craftsmanship. Seeing him regularly around Omuthiya town brings us joy. When he mentioned his birthday on 12 December, we were inspired to do something special, a birthday cake, his favourite music, and moments of celebrating him.

He would love it, especially since he hopes to release an album called Climate Change”.

She added, “We plan to play his music, including favourites such as Ondjodji Yuusiku Oiwa, and express our support and well-wishes on his special day.”

Fans and well-wishers are invited to join the celebration or send greetings. Those wishing to contribute can contact the MICT Oshikoto staff involved on 0811290291, 0811563806, or 065 244257, or deliver gifts directly to the MICT office in Omuthiya.
