KATIMA MULILO – Chairperson of Zambezi Regional Council and Kabbe Constituency Councillor Raphael Mbala says the region has seen remarkable development since independence.

According to Mbala infrastructure such as roads, schools and for potable drinking water have been put up to enhance the well-being of the region’s inhabitants.

He was speaking during the belated celebration of Namibia’s 25th independence anniversary at Katima Mulilo over the weekend.

“We have remarkable developments in the Zambezi Region through the Swapo-led government. Recently the former president [Hifikepunye Pohamba] officially inaugurated the main road 125, which connects Liselo, Linyanti, Sangwali, Kongola and Singalamwe and also the Izimwe-Nakabolelwa road, Isize-Luhonono and Dr Hage Geingob and Dr Sam Nujoma streets that were revamped,” said Mbala.

Mbala further noted that apart from roads government continues to provide amenities to many residents of the region.

“Many schools have been electrified, which includes but are not limited to Batubaja, Malindi, Kaenda and Ngonga schools. More are still to be electrified. Potable drinking water has also been made available,” boasted Mbala.

Mbala further reminded residents of the sacrifices made by struggle heroes that led to Namibia’s self-determination.

“We must not forget, not even a little, that those difficult days of the struggle, many sons and daughters of Namibia sacrificed their lives and shed their precious blood to bring about Namibia’s freedom, national independence and a better future for all,” stated Mbala.

He called for unity and urged the residents of the region to support the administration of President Hage Geingob. “I call upon the residents of Zambezi to rally behind Dr Hage Geingob. Let’s give him our support so that he delivers.

Let us unite to ensure a vibrant and prosperous Namibian nation,” urged Mbala who represented Zambezi regional governor Lawrence Sampofu.

Hundreds of residents thronged the Katima Mulilo sports complex to attend the fun-filled event, including traditional chiefs and guests from neighbouring Zambia.
