WINDHOEK – Eight restaurant employees, including a manager, made an appearance in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday facing a charge of theft of alcohol from Peppercorn Restaurant at Maerua Mall in Windhoek.
The eight allegedly helped themselves to drinks and food that was returned by customers who had changed their mind about their orders.
The employees are charged with stealing drinks such as whiskey and beer, as well as food worth N$26 000, during the time of their employment.
They are Mervin James Goagoseb, Calvin Jason Tsuseb, Stanley Wapua Kaangudue, Evelyn David, Roelien Plaatjies, Patricia Natalie, Sinead Bassingthwaighte and Jo-Anne Xoagus.
New Era learned that Plaatjies had only been employed for a week, while Xoagus was the manager. The complainant and owner of the restaurant is Peter Heckmair.
They are all free on bail of N$5 000 each.
Prosecutor Samantha Diergaardt informed Magistrate Kaulikalekwa Nghishitende on Tuesday that Heckmair intends to change the value of the food and drinks stolen from N$26 000 to N$2 000. The matter was postponed to 26 November for further investigations.
