KEETMANSHOOP – Mariental-based religious leader Reverend Magaret Basson strongly condemned the condonation of gender-based violence (GBV) in society.
She was speaking during the launch of her book titled ‘Fight Back Your Dignity – Rise with Glimmer from Defeat’.
Her inspiration for writing the books stems from witnessing the rising numbers of GBV, particularly driven by the belief among women that they must go to great lengths to save failing relationships.
As a result, many women tolerate injustices inflicted upon them, which can result in passion killings.
“We, as human beings, have a responsibility to have a voice on social injustices – even if it makes us uncomfortable, as you have to make the nation aware that silence in the wake of such events is essentially condoning the cruelty in the world around us,” the woman of the cloth said. The first part of the book speaks mostly of the hardships, pain, bitterness, anger, anxiety, loss of integrity as well as the social and cultural influences GBV has on relationships.
The second part of the book brings a brighter side and positivity of how to maintain integrity during trying times.
