A large field of 96 riders braved wet and muddy conditions, during the first race of the 2014 Bank Windhoek Namibia National Enduro Series, last Saturday at farm Omakwara.

Although it stopped raining in the third lap, the riders had to contend with the slippery conditions of a rain soaked racing course with puddles of water. The rain also made the technical rocky parts of the track more challenging as many struggled to find traction with their wet and muddy tyres.

The results for the ten race classes of the event were as follows:

In the Fun Class, there were eight entries with Staub Faenger finishing first, followed by Jandrei van Eck and Heiko Brettschneider in third place.

The Clubmanns Class was by far the biggest of the day with 30 entries. RJ Visser won this class, followed by Guenther Gladis and Sven Grunert in third place.

In the Masters Class, Frank Ahlreip rounded off the podium with Martin Diekmann in second and Sven Schneidenberger taking first place in his first race in this new class.

In the National Ladies Quad Class, Claire Brendel rode her way to a third place behind Maike Bochert, who was beaten by last year’s overall winner, Julia Moths.

In the Men’s National Quad Class, Clinton Hilfiker took top honours in front of Enrico Malan and Garry Rowland in third place.

In the Open Class, it seems the same people are at it again with Henner Rusch taking the win 4 minutes in front of second placed, Kai Hennes, followed by Ingo Waldschmidt in third place. Here one could see the bigger 300cc bike had an advantage over the smaller 200cc bikes of Kai Hennes and Ingo Waldschmidt.

In Class 1, there was some good competitive racing going on with the top three being separated with just a minute to second place and a minute to third place. The Henle brothers dominated this class, with Pascal Henle taking third place and brother, Marcel coming in second. However, it was Calude Brendel who won the class on board his trusted 200cc KTM.

The first race of the 2014 season is now over and the bikes are washed and the petrol cans are put aside for the second round of this year, which will be held on the 15 March 2014 on the Rusch Farm behind the Omeya Golf Resort.
