This year’s edition of the eagerly awaited MTC Namibia Youth Games was officially launched in the capital yesterday and organisers confirmed that the games will take place next month at Rietfontein in the Otjozondjupa region.
The event is set to take place on 16-18 December at Rietfontein and will mark another instalment of the local youth multi-sport games since the inaugural edition in 2018. The youth games, held under the auspices of the Namibia Sports Commission (NSC), were early this year announced as one of the beneficiaries of the MTC’s manifold mega sponsorship to sport and arts – which saw the youth games getting a N$5.4 million sponsorship over three years.
Speaking at the launch yesterday, NSC chief administrator Freddy Mwiya said next month’s event will see a total of eight sport codes battling it out for qualification to next year’s Region 5 Youth Games to be held in Maseru, Lesotho.
Also speaking at the launch, sports minister Agnes Tjongarero said the games serve an important role and contributes to the ministry’s broader agenda of sport development and youth upliftment.
