RIP Wilfried Saul Coetzee 1983 – 2016

Home Sports RIP Wilfried Saul Coetzee 1983 – 2016

Windhoek

The Namibian football fraternity is reeling in shock after it woke up to the devastating news that one of the country’ most deadly finishers, former Black Africa and Orlando Pirates burly striker Wilfried Saul Coetzee, has taken a bow from the game of life, aged 32.

A beast of an athlete and your typical old-fashioned bullish forward, Saul started playing competitive football with Black Africa where he set the domestic scene alight with breathtaking goals and strong penetration before moving to boyhood team Orlando Pirates.

One could feel the sense of sadness in the air when his former Orlando Pirates’ teammates trotted onto the field to confront United Stars in the weekend’s MTC Premiership clash in Rundu.

Judging by the players’ body language and subsequent below par performance, it was crystal clear evident that the Ghosts were taken aback by the untimely passing of their former colleague. Uncharacteristically, the Buccaneers lost the match 4-2.

Saul is amongst the latest deaths of former football greats, following the untimely departures of Franklin April, Matheus Namaseb, Black Kangootui, Paul Haosemab, Tiwes Mbako, Scage Kandjiriomuini, Connie Samaria and Ferdinand Namubeb, among hordes of others. May their combined souls rest in eternal peace.
