RMB Namibia injects N$398 500 into OMBA Arts Trust

RMB Namibia injects N$398 500 into OMBA Arts Trust

RMB Namibia, through the FirstRand Namibia Foundation, sponsored N$398 500 towards the OMBA Arts Trust, an organisation dedicated to empowering Namibian artists and preserving cultural heritage.

Omba Arts is a non-profit organisation which has been supporting the sustainable livelihoods of hundreds of artisans and artists living in rural communities in Namibia for over 30 years. They develop and market traditional and contemporary handcrafts as well as San contemporary art.

During the official handover event, Kirsty Watermeyer, Communications Manager for FirstRand Namibia Group, reaffirmed RMB Namibia’s commitment to investing in initiatives which foster education, training and skills development, particularly within Namibia’s creative sector and amongst women.

“For over 30 years, the OMBA Arts Trust has been a beacon of hope for the marginalised communities of Namibia. The trust has made significant strides in not just supporting local artists, but equipping them with the tools necessary to develop their skills, and in turn uplift their communities and preserve their cultural heritage,” Watermeyer stated.

As a staunch supporter of the Creative Economy, RMB Namibia recognises the vital role played by organisations like OMBA Arts Trust in driving socio-economic growth. The trust has created employment opportunities for over 600 individuals, the majority of whom are women.

This sponsorship reinforces RMB Namibia’s dedication to empowering women, acknowledging the transformative impact that economic independence has on families and communities.

“OMBA Arts is a prime example of the ripple-effect that happens when we invest in women. Through their work, they not only provide for their families, but inspire those around them, and contribute to the overall growth of their communities,” she added.

Isabel Katjavivi, director of OMBA Arts Trust, highlighted the trust’s focus on economic empowerment and its dedication to preserving Namibia’s artistic heritage. She expressed gratitude for RMB Namibia’s ongoing support.

“We are incredibly grateful to RMB Namibia for recognising the importance of this work, and for their commitment to uplifting communities through financial empowerment. This support will make a real difference, and we look forward to sharing the impact in the months to come,” said Katjavivi
