The Namibian police in the Otjozondjupa Region last week launched a scholar patrol campaign .
The main aim of the campaign is to educate learners on how to move safely along the roads and when and where they should cross the road to avoid being bumped by a vehicle.

The idea of launching the campaign, came after an eight-year-old learner from Spes Bona Primary in Otjiwarongo was knocked over by a taxi last month while she was on her way to school.

It is a joint campaign consisting of police officers, Otjiwarongo municipal traffic officers and the Motor Vehicle Assistance Fund (MVA).

The campaign is headed by the head of community affairs in Otjozondjupa, Warrant Officer Maureen Mbeha.According to Mbeha: “The target is to reach out to all primary schools in the region. Not all children schooling in towns grew up in towns as some might have come from villages and farms.”

The theme of the campaign is: “Look right, look left and look right again when you want to cross the road.”
