Rural sports development meeting set for Monday

The interim committee for the Namibia Rural Sports Development Federation (NRSDF) will be holding a meeting at UN Plaza in Windhoek on Monday at 10h00.

Established in 2000, NRSDF is dedicated to promoting and developing sports in rural areas across Namibia.

The federation organises tournaments and events to discover and showcase talented athletes from rural communities to national teams and professional clubs, acting as a feeder system for elite sports in the country.

NRSDF interim secretary general Ngatuuane Hange said the purpose of the gathering will be to prepare and set the dates for the upcoming NRSDF congress.

Hange further emphasised that the meeting is important as it is the one to put the guidelines on what is expected at the
congress. “We are going to put things in order ahead of the congress so that it can be successful. We are committed to the task ahead and must prepare well in advance,” he said.

Initially, the term of office for the federation leadership is five years, and the current interim committee took over in 2024. The members’ associations okayed the interim leadership to run the affairs of the NRSDF until the next congress.

Hange added that the committee will also look into avenues on how to host the next All-Stars tournament soon.

Asked about the challenges facing the federation, the secretary general highlighted a lack of sponsorships and sports facilities in rural areas as key issues.

Despite these shortcomings, Hange is positive about the fruits the rural sport body achieved.

“I can say 70 % of the players playing in the lower leagues up to the Premier leagues are products of the NRSDF. We contributed a lot to the sports development in the country, and some of our players are playing in foreign leagues,” boasted Hange.

The interim leadership is composed of chairperson Japandera Procollo Kamburona, deputised by Oliver Mutenge as vice chairperson.

Hange is at the helm of the federation, assisted by Tjivikara Kamenje as vice SG, while Uataviza Patire oversees public relations of the rural sport body.

The financial affairs of the NRSDF are in the hands of Tico Kazakoka as treasurer.

Kataura Tjisemo, Kaiko Kandjou, Jorokee Vesevete, Esau Tjihange, Bebeto Katjivivi and Ngeroo Tjiramba are the organisers of the federation.
