A bumper field of 66 riders took part in the second round of the Bank Windhoek National Enduro Series at Farm Lichtenstein, a few kilometres outside Windhoek, last Saturday.
With a reputation as one of the toughest race courses in the series, riders were anxious for the race to start and to find out what the fuss was all about.
The National Bikes Class had to complete three laps of the tricky terrain and during the third lap, it started to rain, which made navigating over the slippery and steep rocks a bit more challenging.
Nevertheless, all the riders managed to finish the race.
In the Open Class, Henner Rusch demonstrated that he is the man to beat. Riding on home turf, he showed what he and his 300cc KTM can do, taking first place, nine minutes ahead of second placed, Kai Hennes, who rode amongst the big bikes on his 200cc KTM demonstrating that he has the pace to compete in this class. In third place it was Tommy Gous on board his trusted Yamaha.
In Class 1, Claude Brendel took top honours ahead of Joern Greiter who edged out Kai-Uwe Brettschneider who finished in third position.
In the National Quad Class, Enrico Malan won ahead of Clinton Hilficker, while Heiko Bernstain finished in third place.
In the National Ladies Quad Class, Shannon Rowland took home her first win for the season ahead of Maike Bochert and Claire Brendel in second and third place respectively.
In the Masters Bike Class, Sven Schneidenberger won the class in a respectable time ahead of second placed, Martin Diekmann, even though he was struggling with stomach cramps for the entire race. Frank Ahlreip came in second place.
In Class 7, Guenther Gladis took home the win in front of RJ Visser and third placed, Rainer Sentefol.
In Class 8, Franco Routh won ahead of L Oppermann in second place and Andre van Zyl in third place.
In Class 9, the only finisher and entrant was Juan van As taking home the win.
In Class 10, David Winter won ahead of Jakkie van Zyl and Immo Keil in second and third place respectively.
The next race will be held in Aranos on 12 April 2014.
