The salaries, service bonuses and motor vehicle allowances of the Secretary of Cabinet and three Service Chiefs have been increased substantially to be on a par with international standards, according to Minister of Presidential Affairs, Albert Kawana.
A decision of the Public Service Commission, and following a letter by Prime Minister Nahas Angula dated September 4, sets out the terms and conditions of employment for the four high-ranking public officials.
The improved remuneration packages are on the same level as that of Cabinet Ministers, and include personal security to the officials, furniture allowances, improved housing allowances, access to service vehicles, as well as participation in the Government car scheme for management cadre in the public service.
The package adjustments follow a decision made in March, which was effected in April.
Chairperson of the Public Service Commission, Eddie Amukongo, said President Hifikepunye Pohamba used his prerogative as Head of State to bring about the adjustments.
The Namibian Constitution stipulates that the President of the country appoints the three Service Chiefs – the Inspector-General of the Police, the Chief of the Defence Force, and the Commissioner of Prisons.
Budgetary items attached to the packages involve an entertainment allowance of N$20???_?_’???_?’???_???
