WINDHOEK – The 2nd edition of the eagerly awaited Bank Windhoek Schools Netball Super League was launched recently in Windhoek.

The Netball Super League, which was established last year aims to develop and promote netball at school level, while also providing a platform for school teams to participate in a more competitive league. The league has been endorsed by the Namibia School Sport Union (NSSU), and has grown this year to include a league for the Under-17 teams in addition to the initial Under-19 league. The top eight teams of the NSSU Regional Netball League automatically qualify to compete in the Super League.

“Bank Windhoek is proud of its involvement in the sport of netball. Our sponsorship for the second annual Schools Netball Super League has increased this year to N$90 000 to make provision for the addition of an Under-17 league, to pay team prize monies and to assist with equipment for the A and B leagues of the U-19 and U-17s,” Marlize Horn, Executive Officer: Marketing and Corporate Communication Services at Bank Windhoek said at the launch. “The sponsored funds will also cater for travel and accommodation costs of government schools that would be travelling from other towns to Windhoek for league matches. In addition, Bank Windhoek is also giving every player, coach and official of the participating schools a goody bag containing Super League branded items that they can use for the duration of the league. Teams will also receive branded Super League netball balls.

“The Bank Windhoek Schools Netball Super League is a great opportunity to improve the standard of netball in schools and will also be an opportunity for professional teams to scout talented players at various matches,” said Liezel Garbers, chairperson of the Bank Windhoek Schools Netball Super League steering committee.
