Hundreds of destitute Lüderitz residents, among them pensioners and school-going children, can look forward to some nutritious meals, thanks to a donation of six tonnes of fish by Seaflower Group of Companies

The fish is to be distributed to soup kitchens and to the needy of Lüderitz.

Seaflower Group of Companies acting CEO Mike Nghipunya recently donated the fish to the Office of the Mayor of Lüderitz in the presence of Minister of Poverty Eradication and Social Welfare Bishop Zephania Kameeta.

Nghipunya said in terms of their corporate social responsibility (CSR) the Seaflower Group decided to join the campaign to alleviate poverty across the country and in //Karas Region in particular.

Fish worth N$170 000 will be distributed to the destitute and needy through five soup kitchens that offer meals for free to the poor, the elderly and the infirm.

These vulnerable groups will receive two meals a week, including a portion of cooked or fried fish, donated by Seaflower.

The Office of the Mayor, churches and other stakeholders will be involved in the distribution of free meals that will also benefit three primary schools and one secondary school.

Seaflower said it would make a similar fish donation before the end of the year to bring the value of its CSR donations to N$340 000.

Nghipunya said the company has been donating fish to old age homes and to seven schools in Lüderitz since 2014.

Kameeta asked Nghipunya if they could also donate fish to the indigent residents of Warmbad and Nghipunya responded positively, saying they would donate two tonnes of fish to the destitute of Warmbad.

Bishop Kameeta applauded Nghipunya and acknowledged that he is very committed to the business of Seaflower and to the welfare of the resident communities.
