Second place did not come easy – Ngarizemo

Second place did not come easy – Ngarizemo

GOBABIS – Head coach of Omaheke’s Debmarine Premier League outfit, Young African FC, Maleagi Ngarizemo, said the team’s securing of second position in the league did not come on a silver platter.

Ngarizemo’s remarks came after African Stars were crowned Premier League champions for the 2024/25 season on Sunday, following their draw against Mighty Gunners in Otjiwarongo.

He told Nampa yesterday that the 2024/25 season had been a mountain to climb and expressed gratitude that the club ended the season as the second-best team in Namibia’s elite football league.

The coach said the Gobabis-based club faced numerous challenges but still managed to finish the season near the top.

“It was not an easy run for us. Congratulations to African Stars. We faced a lot of challenges starting from relocation to Windhoek due to lack of a training ground, withdrawal of Namibia Correctional Services (NCS) players in the middle of the season, and lack of sponsorships, among others,” said the outspoken coach.

He praised the players, backroom staff, and supporters for their influence and for standing firm amid these challenges.

“This is a remarkable achievement that we must be proud of. It was not an easy battle, but in the end, hard work paid off. As we are the second-best team in the country, congratulations to African Stars,” he added.

Ngarizemo dedicated the club’s achievement to the players for their commitment and efforts in both the league and the MTC Maris Cup competition.

“Our main objective was to avoid relegation. Thanks to our Almighty, we just assembled in a short space, and here we are today,” he said.

Looking ahead, the Gobabis-based team is eyeing participation in the Confederation Cup but will engage with the Namibia Football Association’s Head of Competitions to explore the possibility.

He also acknowledged the immense support of the Omaheke regional leadership, adding that the team would continue to raise the name of the ‘Mighty Omaheke’ through sport.

“We also have a lot of individuals that really supported us, and we will come to thank them officially at the end of the season.”

The Debmarine Premier League has one match remaining before the season concludes.
