Security guard found dead in suspected suicide

OMUTHIYA – The body of a private security guard was found inside an apartment behind the shop he was manning at Omuthiya on Sunday in a suspected case of suicide. Neighbours stumbled upon his lifeless body.

“The deceased was found on the bed in a pool of blood with a gunshot wound. According to one of the witnesses, it is alleged that the deceased seemed intoxicated when he entered the room,” said Oshikoto police commander, Commissioner Armas Shivute, adding no foul play was suspected. The victim was identified as Joseph Kanyeumbo (47). Meanwhile, the police on Tuesday arrested a male aged 19 at Onankali for allegedly raping a six-year-old girl in January. The incident happened when the suspect and victim were left alone at home.

“It is alleged that the suspect called the victim to his room and had sexual intercourse with the minor. The ordeal only came to light on Sunday when the victim’s mother noticed an untoward movement by the girl. It was after enquiries that she revealed what transpired,” read the police report.

The suspect was due to appear in the Ondangwa Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
