A security officer stationed at New Era Publication Corporation’s (NEPC) head offices died last Thursday in the Oshakati state hospital after he was involved in an accident.
Twenty-seven-year-old Gisbert Hithikepune Nambele perished after the vehicle he was travelling in overturned when the driver tried to avoid hitting a warthog on the Tsumeb-Oshivelo road.
He was on his way to visit his family at Ontanga village in Okatana constituency of Oshana region when the accident occurred.
His aunt Sabina Komeya described Nambele as an ambitious, well-mannered and hardworking young man.
“He was very important in the family – we looked up to him and knew he was going to take care of us in the future as he was so caring and loving,” a teary Komeya told New Era.
NEPC employees who worked closely with him remembered Nambele as being a helpful and compassionate individual.
“He knew what he wanted in life and didn’t fit in with being a security guard as he was a smart person with big goals,” said one colleague who worked with the late Nambele for the past three months.
“He knew how to brighten people’s day with a big smile and friendly words.”
New Era’s chief political reporter Elvis Muraranganda referred to the late Nambele as his “twin”.
“When I started here a couple of months ago he was one of the people that welcomed me here fully, and he dubbed me his twin already within the first week, maybe because of the manner in which we cut our beards,” explained Muraranganda.
“It was never a dull moment with him around and I could count on him for a couple favours. But we never stopped calling each other twin.”
“Surely I will miss him and was hoping to see him rise to do the things he had always dreamt of doing. Go well my twin brother,” said Muraranganda.
Nambele is survived by his 11-month-old son.
The memorial service will be held on Wednesday and the funeral on Thursday at Ontanga village in Okatana constituency.
