The Namibia Tennis Association (NTA) held its third senior tennis tourney in the capital – and according to the organisers, the tourney lived up to their expectation.
The competition saw players from host Namibia, Zambia, South Africa and Austria battling it out for top honours in the much-anticipated competition.
The tournament started on Friday, and ended on Sunday.
It had more than 20 players participating in various categories.
Jandre Bezuidenhout, the tournament director, said he was impressed with the competitiveness of the tournament. He also said the tournament was aimed at players accumulating points, which will eventually be used for ranking.
“We have the Davis Cup coming up in June this year – and this tournament was very instrumental for those trying to qualify for the biggest tournament in the world. The points accumulated at the weekend’s tournament would be used to rank players accordingly – and the higher you are ranked, the more you are likely to secure a spot at the upcoming tournaments,” he said.
In the men’s singles Kendall Swarts dominated proceedings, claiming the top spot, followed by Ruben Yssel, who finished second.
Meanwhile, in the men’s doubles, Kendall Swarts and Elias Shikongo dominated the category.
In the ladies’ singles, Maria van Schalwyk came out victorious.
