ONGWEDIVA – The police have reported a number of rapes of children in various northern regions.
A 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped and impregnated by her 56-year-old stepfather in Ongwediva last year.
This incident happened in June in their house while the mother was out.
Namibian Police spokesperson in the Oshana region Thomas Aiyambo said the victim is now eight months pregnant.
It’s alleged that the suspect found his stepdaughter sleeping, and later convinced her so that she went to his room.
“He threatened the victim, and later she was raped,” Aiyambo narrated.
The suspect has been arrested, and is due to appear in the local magistrate’s court today.
Still in the Oshana region, a 15-year-old girl was raped by an unknown man while collecting firewood at Onkuni village in the Eheke constituency last November.
In another rape incident, a 12-year-old girl was raped by her 47-year-old uncle last week at Omahalya village in the Omusati region.
It’s alleged that the suspect found his niece in the mahangu field.
He threatened to kill her, and later raped her.
Also in the Omusati region, a 13-year-old girl was raped by her 31-year-old cousin at Oshuukwa village in the Okahao constituency last week.
Meanwhile, a 16-year-old girl was raped by her cousin at Onembaba village in the Omusati region last week.
It’s alleged that the victim was first assaulted by the suspect.
Police investigations are underway into the matter.
The police have urged parents not to leave girls alone with men, because many girls have become victims of being raped by their own relatives.
