Finance and public enterprises minister Iipumbu Shiimi, was awarded the prestigious African Banker Award for Minister of Finance of the Year 2024.
“This honour recognises his exceptional leadership and significant contributions to Namibia’s economic growth and financial stability. Under Shiimi’s stewardship, Namibia has achieved remarkable milestones in financial governance and economic reform. His strategic initiatives have strengthened the nation’s fiscal policies, enhanced public sector efficiency, and promoted sustainable development. This award is a testament to his dedication and visionary approach to steering Namibia’s financial sector through challenging times”, organisers said.
According to the African Banker’s award committee, “Minister Shiimi’s efforts have not only improved domestic economic resilience, but also set a commendable example for financial management across the continent. The African Banker Awards celebrate his achievements and his unwavering commitment to advancing Namibia’s financial and economic landscape”. Shiimi expressed gratitude for this recognition, and dedicated the award to the hardworking team at the finance and public enterprises ministry, and Namibia’s entire leadership. He emphasised that this accolade is a reflection of collective efforts, and a motivation to continue striving for excellence in public service. The award was accepted on Shiimi’s behalf by deputy finance and public enterprises minister, Maureen Hinda-Mbuende in Nairobi, Kenya.
