WINDHOEK-While most of Namibian artists are shifting away from their original style of singing, the newly formed duos, Shiku & Shikwa are reaching top of the local musical ladder while clinging to Hip Hop.
The duos’ real names, Leornado Akathingo (Shikwa) and Paulus Kiiyala (Shiku), recently dropped their new and innovative Hip Hop/ Kwaito single complimented by a music video titled Spukupuku. According to Shiku, Spukupuku means “Idiots”. The song is talking more about fake people.
“Being an artist, a song comes to you in your sleep. That’s what happens to me. I got the chorus one night in my head and I woke up to put it on the paper. I called Shikwa because my heart was telling me the song needs him due to his flow of singing and creative ideas. We both worked on our verses and went straight to one of Namibia’s best producers, K Boz, for recording,” says Shiku. He adds that the song was produced in 2012 but they kept it undercover as they wanted to give it a nice video before putting it on air.
Currently the song is on the Energy 100 FM Top Ten Charts and is enjoying massive airplay and viewing both on local radio and television stations and social networks. “I have faith in this song, it is a quality song, the rhymes are sick and the quality of the video speaks for itself. The results will come out when we submit it to Channel O and accepted,” says Shiku.
