Local footballer Anna Shikusho, affectionally known as ‘Panna’, is dominating the FNB Women’s Super League as the top scorer, having netted an impressive 30 goals by the end of Round 17.

Last season, the prolific player had 54 goals for Ongos Ladies FC. However, because she juggles employment commitments with football, she at times only joins matches in the second half, as she works during weekends.

This has impacted her goal-scoring potential, compared to the previous season.

Despite this situation, Shikusho expressed gratitude for the opportunity to compete for the top scorer title, reflecting her dedication to the club and the game she loves.

Her recent hattrick against Namib Daughters just went to show her commitment, as she hopes to use the last three remaining fixtures to add to her goal tally.

Despite leading the goal-scoring chart, Shikusho’s contributions have been invaluable to her team, with the icing on the cake being that Ongos managed to win the league title over the weekend with 55 points from 19 matches played.

“It’s a happy time for us,” said Shikusho.

In addition, she acknowledged the overall improvement in league standards compared to previous seasons, but said there is a need for greater recognition and financial incentives for players.

She commended the league’s organisation, and highlighted the abundance of opportunities for women footballers, stressing the importance of acknowledging their efforts and providing financial rewards.

Shikusho is followed in second by last season’s top goal scorer Fiola Vliete with 19 goals.

Last season, she won the top goal-scorer award with 58 goals.
