WINDHOEK – Distell Namibia, through one of its flagship whisky brands, Three Ships Whisky, this week announced its commitment to sports development with a sponsorship of N$100 000 to the Namibian cricket league.

It is the first time that Three Ships sponsors a cricket league. Speaking at the official launch, Managing Director of Distell Namibia, Leon Fouchè, said: “Three Ships Whisky is a quality product with a proud heritage. There are many core values that the Three Ships brand represents that can be associated with cricket such as camaraderie, sophistication and respect. The most important factor, however, is the fact that cricket brings people together to share special occasions and this is exactly how and where Three Ships Whisky fits in – a World Class Internationally Awarded whisky being shared among likeminded individuals that are proud and appreciates quality.”

Fouché continued: “We are honoured to be involved with Cricket Namibia and with all the teams who will be playing in this league. We truly believe that the partnership will be beneficial to all parties and the various stakeholders.”

After receiving the cheque, President of Cricket Namibia, Richard Frankle, expressed his appreciation and said: “In June 2014, Cricket Namibia embarked on a new journey with a new board and a new president. The team was completed with the appointment of Dr Donovan Zealand as CEO of Cricket Namibia who took office on the 1 September 2014. Cricket Namibia set the target of qualifying for the Cricket World Cup by 2019.”

Frankle added that Three Ships sponsoring the premier league, 1st and 2nd divisions, as well as the T20, would help players to grow and achieve the target of qualifying for the 2019 World Cup.

“Three Ships Whisky is no stranger to cricket in Namibia and in 2013 sponsored a successful One-Day 50-Over tournament between Cape Cobras and Namibia, held in Windhoek.”

Ships’ Master Distiller, Andy Watts, is a huge cricket supporter and he actually played semi-professional county cricket in England before he took over the position as Master Distiller at the James Sedgwicks Distillery in Wellington.
