WINDHOEK – Despite having nailed a three-year contract with South African Professional Soccer League (PSL) outfit Amazulu, Brave Warriors midfield sensation, Petrus Shitembi is still kicking his heels in frustration due to continued lack of game time.
Shitembi has been in obscurity since his move to University of Pretoria (Amatuks) at the beginning of the 2012/2013 season before Amatuks released him. Sources close to the player informed New Era Sports that, although the player has signed, the conclusion of his move has been subject to the availability of a foreign spot in the team.
Attempts to get clarity from his agent Jakes Amaning yielded very little, with Amaning telling this reporter to contact Amazulu for information regarding Shitembi’s future at the club. “Whatever I tell you now will not hold any water because I really don’t know anything about Shitembi’s current situation, it’s better to call and ask Amazulu why he is not playing, he is their player now and they should know better than me”, he said.
The player could not be reached for comment as his mobile phone went unanswered and messages left on his contact details where never returned.
Shitembi trained with Amazulu for the better part of last season and was subsequently offered a 3-year deal but the Namibian youngster is yet to feature in an official PSL match for the Kwazulu Natal outfit. Shitembi is among dozens other Warriors regulars who have been left out of the Warriors squad by coach Ricardo Mannetti, as a result of match fitness.
In other updates, Namibia’s U/20 and former Orlando Pirates (Nam) lethal goal-poacher, Tertius ‘Terry’ Useb recently became the latest player to join the Namibian PSL legion after he signed a 3-year contact with South African giants Orlando Pirates.
But with the South African foreign quota already full, sources close to the player couldn’t establish whether the youngster will be loaned out to another club for the whole season or might maybe feature for the buccaneers junior teams.
The promising youngster was called-up this year by Mannetti to feature for The Namibian Newspaper Cup’s Shadow Team against the Brave Warriors in Tsumeb, this year.
Meanwhile, the pair of Ronaldo Tsowaseb (Chippa United, SA) and Hendrick Somaeb (Free States Stars, SA) have still not knuckled down to serious action in the PSL as they are still waiting for a few issues surrounding their work permits to be finalised.
Tsowaseb, plies his trade with Chippa United FC, is said to have impressed the Port Elizabeth outfit’s technical staff and can’t wait to pull the blue and white jersey over this head.
Somaeb has also reportedly been in top shape at Stars’ training and much is expected from the youngster once all paper issues are done.
