The Project Never Walk Alone team pulled off an electrifying show of boxing and music on Saturday evening at the Windhoek Country Club and Resort.
The spectacle aimed to raise funds to buy shoes for less-fortunate children, and culminated in the much-anticipated bout between musician King Tee Dee and project founder and telecommunications executive Tim Ekandjo fighting over four rounds. The former came up trumps and was crowned national catchweight champion. Five other national title bouts took place. The sold-out event saw 15 local artists entertaining boxing enthusiasts from around 17h00 until 01h45 yesterday morning when the rain abruptly stopped South African DJ Master KG from finishing his 45-minute set.
VIBEZ! spoke to some ambassadors of the Never Walk Alone project to find out why they are part of it.
“This has been an incredible experience from the beginning; it has been wholesome and heart-filling,” said vocalist Anne Singer.
Top Cheri said she loves helping with anything that has to do with the project, through which the project team goes from school to school, giving shoes to learners from less-privileged backgrounds.
“Seeing those faces when giving the shoes, socks, cooldrinks, porridge; you see how happy they are, and that to me brings peace,” said Etjo from Ethnix Namibia.
Since the project started in August last year, 5 890 Namibian learners have received shoes.
