WINDHOEK – The SKW ladies team was crowned winner of the 2013 Bank Windhoek National Volleyball Ladies League at the DTS hall last weekend.
Although the team lost their second match of the day against NDF by 3:0, they won their first match against KNVC (3:0) to keep their strong hold atop the log standings. The top four teams – SKW, NDF, RVC and KNVC – will now participate in the Namibia Volleyball Federation Cup, scheduled for November 2 –16 in Windhoek.
The bottom three teams – DTS, Polytech and Eleven Warriors – will battle it out on November 16 to regain their place in the national league. The top three club teams automatically qualify to participate in the club champions of Zone 6, which will take place in Swaziland later this year. These are SKW, NDF and RVC.
All three clubs are still looking for sponsorships to participate in the event. “I would like to thank Bank Windhoek for their assistance throughout the year and for making it possible for volleyball to grow as a sport. Seventy-two games were played throughout the season and more and more people are taking part in volleyball. We have also seen an increase in the number of spectators at individual games,” said Wolfgang Leyerer, Director of Competition at the Namibia Volleyball Federation.
