By Kuvee Kangueehi WINDHOEK Former Black Africa FC and Liverpool FC winger David Snewe for many years broke the hearts of African Stars supporters during his playing days. The frame of the big strong winger cutting through the Stars defence and putting the ball in the back of the net is still very fresh in the memory of the African Stars’ diehard fans. He was the one player the Stars fans loved to hate and he became public enemy number one when he moved from Black Africa to Liverpool, and mention of his name aroused anger and fear among many. Snewe this weekend will lock horns again with African Stars in the semifinals of the prestigious Namibia Football Association (NFA) Cup semifinal clash on Saturday at Walvis Bay. But the good news for the Stars faithful though is that he will be on the bench and will not be able to score for his team Mighty Gunners as he is only their coach. However, speaking to New Era last week, Snewe promised to break the hearts of the Stars supporters again. The giant in his soft voice said in fact his former club Black Africa, which his team eliminated in the previous round, is a much better team. “Stars only have a strong defence and I have already worked out the strategy to knock them out of the competition.” He added that his team has been training hard for the last couple of weeks and is ready for the showdown at the coast. Looking at Snewe’s team’s past performances, he definitely is not bluffing and Stars will need to be in top form to progress to the next round. However, reports by Nampa claim that African Stars assistant coach Manasse Katjivena described the team’s preparations as having been superb, adding that if they lose it will not be because they had little time to prepare for the semifinal clash. He said his team is injury-free, adding that Mighty Gunners’ strong point is their fitness level, which is what made them beat Black Africa in the quarterfinal clash at Oshakati. Katjivena called on African Stars’ supporters to come in their thousands, promising that they will not be disappointed as the ‘Samba Boys’ aim for victory at all costs. But Mighty Gunners Head Coach Dawid Snewe said his players are highly motivated because of the win they pulled off against Black Africa in the quarterfinal match. “You know Black Africa is not an easy team to beat when it comes to cup competition,” said Snewe. He said this time around he would field a full squad against African Stars following the return of three of his players who were absent during the Black Africa encounter. The match kicks off at 14h00. In the other game defending champions Orlando Pirates take on Ramblers.
