OUTAPI – Another woman lost her life at the hands of her male partner yesterday in the Omusati Region, prompting a desperate plea from the police in the region for men to start discussing problems with their partners instead of killing them and then committing suicide.

Vistorina Namundjamba Amunyela from Epumbu, a village in the Okahao constituency, was shot dead by her partner, Kashimba Petrus yesterday morning at Outapi. According to the police public relations officer in the Omusati Region, Hisekiel Hamalwa, the woman was preparing to go to work when the boyfriend showed up at her residence armed with a firearm.

Amunyela, who was 32-years-old, was shot in the neck and between the shoulders from behind. Immediately after shooting Amunyela, Petrus turned the pistol on himself and committed suicide. “Men should share their problems instead of killing innocent women. They must solve the problems in an innocent way. Let us talk. Do not shoot,” pleaded Hamalwa yesterday. Amunyela was a teacher at Omuulukila Combined School in Outapi, while Petrus was a member of the Namibian Defence Force (NDF) serving in the navy wing.

He hails from Iilambo, a village in the Okahao constituency. According to the police the deceased was in her bedroom preparing to go to work when the boyfriend arrived at the home she was renting. “[Amunyela] went to do her hair in the bathroom where the suspect supposedly followed her … where he shot her once in the neck and once between the shoulder. The deceased died instantly on the spot,” said Hamalwa. Police say Amunyela and Patrus were involved in a four-year relationship and have a 4-year-old son.
