By Leon Slabbert KARASBURG Lordsville Junior Secondary School has its historical roots in the neighbouring Karasburg Primary School, which was occupied to full capacity right from the beginning in 1983, giving rise to the birth of this school. The school was officially opened on October 19, 1984 by the then director of Education, Jan Basson. The school, currently operating under the motto ‘Let Your Knowledge Grow’, has a learner enrolment of 330 students and 12 teachers on the staff. The school has two established sports codes – soccer and netball – of which we have this year completed a successful season. The school’s under-15 and under-17 soccer teams won the local schools’ league. A learner was selected in the under-20 Karas Regional Soccer Team. Four of the school’s netball players were invited to the national trials held in Rundu and Windhoek. Four learners also competed in the National Athletics Championships in the capital. In the cultural sphere, we annually stage the school’s very popular Miss Lordsville beauty pageant. The school regularly stages talent shows and competes in the Karas Region’s debating competitions. Our AIDS club is very much alive and doing exceptionally well in programmes such as ‘My Future My Choice’. The school’s choir also does very well and performs regularly at various local social functions. Academically, the school is strong, dedicated and features among some of the top schools in the Karas Region. The school’s curriculum content represents real-life situations going beyond the curriculum and satisfies the needs, the nature, aspirations and learner interests. It offers a wide variety of prevocational subjects such as Home Science, Woodwork, Business Management, Accounting and Needlework. All these activities are made possible, thanks to the perseverance, determination and the drive of teacher, hostel and other support staff.
