… Gotlied Ndokosho the main man
WINDHOEK – Just like Eusebio Pedroza, the legendary Panamanian boxer who held the World Boxing Association (WBA) featherweight world title from 1978 to 1985 and became the only boxer in that division to successfully defend his title on no fewer than 19 occasions, Namibia’s own featherweight boxer Gotlied Ndokosho too dreams big and is on a mission to emulate the feats previously achieved by a predecessor.
Co-promoted by Kinda Promotions and Warriors Promotions, Ndokosko will be the main attraction in the ‘Explosive Night’’ Boxing Bonanza at the Windhoek Country Club tomorrow night when he takes on Kakhaber Avetisian from Georgia for the vacant International Boxing Federation (IBF) International Featherweight title over 12 rounds.
Ndokosho, who boasts a record of 14 wins and three losses from 18 bouts, will be expected to pick up where he left off in his last fight against Feleciano Azuaga whom he demolished via a 4th round technical knockout. Avetisian holds an unstable CV of 30 wins, 19 losses and one draw from 50 fights in the paid ranks.
Supporting the main bout will be Joseph ‘Smokey’ Hilongwa, who will defend his World Boxing Federation (WBF) Intercontinental Super Flyweight title against Argentinean Raul Eliseo Medina over 12 rounds of what promises to be a real heated affair between the two boxers. Boxing fans have been urged to come out en masse and witness firsthand as sparks fly at the Windhoek Country Club, where other several top local boxers will also be in action.
IBF Africa and Middle East President, Onesmo Ngowi, in an e-mail sent from his office in Tanzania, said the upcoming title fight against Avetisian would be exceptional as Ndokosho will meet his match in the Georgian strongman. “This is one battle that boxing fans should not miss at all costs,” Ngowi said.
