Sport Expo set for this month

The fourth edition of the annual Namibia Sport Expo is set to take place this month in the coastal town of Swakopmund, the organisers announced yesterday.

This year’s expo will run from 17 to 20 October at the MTC Dome, and will feature both local and international exhibitors showcasing their products and services.

The event will include international speakers such as Daniel Damon, a world-class para-thrower, who will teach attendees about enhancing skills in shotput, discus and javelin for para-athletes. Additionally, Professor Peet du Toit will highlight the importance of athlete longevity.

Speaking to this publication yesterday, the director of the Sport Expo Tjeripo Musutua said preparations are at an advanced stage. “We have put out a notice informing the nation and interested exhibitors to start applying for stalls. Registration is open, and things are moving smoothly. We expect more exhibitors to join as the days progress,” he said.

Last year, the event was held at the same venue alongside the annual Namibia Sports Awards. This year’s organisers anticipate a bigger and more diverse expo. “This year will be different, with a multitude of tournaments and a re-imagined exhibition that is more open to the public. The expo will feature a comprehensive Sports Conference, themed ‘Athlete Longevity – Creating Ecosystems to Thrive’,” Musutua noted.

The bustling Sports Exhibition will host accredited local and international sports affiliations and businesses, showcasing cutting-edge training techniques, the latest sport apparel and equipment, and fostering new affiliations and partnerships. “Our goal is to connect sport organisations, retailers, enthusiasts and stakeholders, building a dynamic network to support ongoing and future developments,” he added.

The organisers have called on the nation to seize this opportunity to market their products and services. The expo will host exciting sport tournaments, including an International Indoor Hockey Tournament within the indoor sports hall,” Musutua said.

The expo was inaugurated in 2019 at Independence Stadium. In 2020, it was cancelled due to Covid-19 regulations, while last year, it was held virtually. – mkambukwe@nepc.com.na
