EENHANA – Swapo central committee member Hofni Iipinge has called on young party leaders to exercise and display the highest standards of discipline.
“Discipline is key to success; therefore, we must display discipline at all times,” Iipinge said during the official opening of the Ohangwena Swapo Party Youth League regional executive committee meeting, held at Eenhana earlier this week.
He said it was the responsibility of young party cadres to initiate activities and programmes of the party.
“These activities shall be organised by our structures, where we have members, members of the SPYL and not registered under the national structure but under sections, branches, districts and regions. Therefore, it is your responsibility to ensure that party activities are held in the region, instead of waiting from the headquarters,” Iipinge implored.
He added that businesses in Ohangwena have shown keen interest in supporting Swapo’s programmes and activities.
“Meanwhile, as young people, we are expected to invest our unwavering contribution to the party through volunteerism. Swapo party’s success was due to the efforts of volunteerism by its members over the past years. Many Namibian young men and women joined the People’s Liberation Army of Namibia through the Swapo party and gave their lives to the fight against the oppressors,” he said.
He then drew attention to the upcoming Presidential and National Assembly elections, slated for November.
“Young people are expected to lead this campaign and ensure that young people vote in big numbers, and they should vote for Swapo. “We must demand service delivery from various government offices, ministries and agencies, which are owed to the people. We must hold these heads accountable, and we should be radical but with respect. We are aware of the national crisis, such as unemployment, education and health – just to mention a few. It is our collective responsibility to ensure that services are provided to the people,” he stated.
In addition, he said Ohangwena will be a target of most political parties and chance-takers.
“This has given an extra hard job to campaign decisively and ensure that Swapo party vice president Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah emerges victorious in these elections,” Iipinge said. – fhamalwa@nepc.com.na
