WINDHOEK-The Swapo Party Youth League (SPYL) has contributed N$25 000 towards the burial of the late Frieda Ndatipo who will be laid to rest this Saturday at Ehafo village in the Ohangwena Region.

Family spokesperson Lukas Alweendo confirmed the youth league’s generous contribution yesterday.

Ndatipo, 26, died during a violent confrontation between a group of ‘struggle kids’ and police near the Swapo headquarters in Katutura last week Wednesday.

Contacted for confirmation yesterday, SPYL spokesperson, Job Amupanda refused to get into the details of the league’s involvement in the funeral preparations. “You, the media, are the enemy of the ‘struggle kids’,” he said.

“There is nothing I can explain to the media,” he added.

SPYL has been sympathetic to the cause of struggle kids for some time now and their contribution does not come as a surprise.

Among others who donated money towards Ndatipo’s funeral is the office of Swapo Secretary General, Nangolo Mbumba, which donated N$10 000 and the Namibian Exile Kids Association (Neka), which gave N$3 500.

Alweendo said other organisations that promised to donate towards the funera were the National Youth Council. He could not confirm how much the youth council pledged to give.

A memorial service was set to be held last night in Katutura. Ndatipo’s body is expected to be transported to her home village today in preparation for the funeral on Saturday.
