A 46-year-old man was arrested for the alleged theft of eight sheep during a joint criminal investigation and anti-stock theft operation in Tsintsabis over the past weekend.
Albertus Horn was charged with stock theft and made his first appearance at the Tsumeb Magistrate’s court on Monday, where he was granted N$10 000 bail. His case was then remanded to April 19 this year.
According to the Oshikoto regional community affairs officer Chief Inspector Stephan Nuuyi, 25 the sheep in question were stolen from Farm Heidelberg in the Tsumeb area in August 2015. Seventeen sheep have not yet been recovered.
Still in Oshikoto, seven men were arrested over the weekend in Soweto, Omashaka and Kuvukiland in Tsumeb. The men, who were arrested at various houses, were traced after the house of a well-known burglar was searched by the police. The suspects were found in possession of three laptops, two cameras and three bags containing suspected stolen clothes and shoes.
House-breaking implements were also confiscated. The owners of the stolen property were traced and the suspects made their first appearance in the Tsumeb Magistrate’s Court on Monday. They are Ernest Geingob, 35, Immanuel Khomagab, 31, So-Oabeb Paul, 23, Nunuhe Roberts, 29, Guob Richald, 29, Ndakuna Frans, 36, and Ochurub Herald, 32. In a separate incident, Kenneth Ipinge, 41, was arrested when he was found with suspected stolen chairs. The suspect admitted guilt at the Tsumeb’s Magistrate’s Court on Monday and was fined N$4 000.
The police in Oshikoto are advising members of the public to refrain from buying stolen goods. “We will not hesitate to arrest anyone found in possession of suspected stolen items,” said Chief Inspector Nuuyi. The joint criminal investigation and anti-stock theft operation is still ongoing in the region.
