Three cars that were stolen from Namibia, worth about N$200 000, were recover ed in Angola and handed to the owners by the police on Monday.

Speaking during the handover, Oshana Crime Coordinator Chief Inspector Golden Naanda said there is a car theft syndicate that is made up of Namibian and Angolan citizens.

He said although the cars were found at different locations in Angola, the police have clear information that there is a network to sell such stolen vehicles in what appears to be a lucrative market in Angola.

The three cars, a Toyota 4X4 Double cab, a Ford Courier and Toyota RAV 4 were abandoned at different places for various reasons.

Some were found with flat tyres while the other had run out of petrol.

The Toyota Double cab which was stolen from Oshakati on September 22 was found at Namacunde, the Ford Courier at Xangongo while the RAV 4 was traced to Ondjiva.

In the case of the Ford Courier, one suspect was arrested. Others are still at large.

Naanda explained: “The criminals should note that we know all their roads and tricks since the people of Angola and Namibia are working together to flush out criminal activities in both countries.

“We thank the good cooperation rendered by the Angolan police in this matter and wish the cordial relationship between the two countries to continue and be cemented. Let the people remain alert when it comes to cross-border criminal activities.”

The owners of the cars, Wouter Langhout (Toyota Double Cab), Remarkus Ndoroma (Ford Courier) and Moises Quiama (RAV 4) thanked the police in both countries for their successful efforts in tracing the stolen vehicles.

Meanwhile, the police have confirmed an incident of culpable homicide which happened on September 29 on the Endola Ohailulu road resulting in the death of Thimoteus Twadile, 57. And a resident of Oniiwe village in Onayena constituency Andreas Nehale, 30, hanged himself in his room.

Another death reported to the police involves a security guard Erastus Abel 38, from Oupumako village who died while on his way to nearby cuca shops at Ohendjele for night duty. No foul play is suspected.

At around 13h00 on Sunday, September 30, a 34-year-old suspect was arrested for raping a six-year-old child. He lived with the child in the same house at the time of the incident at Oshandumbala village.

Last Friday at around 22h30, an ugly accident took place on the Ongwediva Oshakati road near Kandjengedi location where a sedan car collided with a truck.

The driver of the sedan, Kakonda Vakondja, alias Rasta, died on the spot.

The passengers in the sedan Elia Alina, 17, from Elyambala, Elia Shikongo from Onheleiwa, Ndangi Elago and Lena Mwiila, 18, from Elyambala were seriously injured.
