O&L Leisure, which is the custodian of the Strand Hotel Swakopmund and subsidiary of the Ohlthaver & List (O&L) Group, says it shares an ongoing and constant growth in excitement for the Strand Hotel Swakopmund scheduled to open its doors today at 12 noon.
Part of the first-of-its-kind establishment in Namibia will be three top-class restaurants that will occupy the ground floor. One of the exciting top eateries includes the Ocean Cellar, which is bound to take guests to another level in the food experience along the coast. World class products and services will create unforgettable memories at the Ocean Cellar, which is a speciality seafood restaurant, Oyster and Wine Bar with its open show kitchen and Sushi & Shashimi eat-at-counter experience that will bring new meaning to the Strand Hotel’s saying: “Great Food, Great People, Good Fun.”
Situated on the historic Swakopmund Mole, just a few metres from the beachfront, the Ocean Cellar offers both indoor and outdoor restaurant and lounge seating all with spectacular sea views. It is open seven days a week from 12 noon through to 10pm serving not only lunch and dinner but also a tasty array of all day snacks.
“O&L Leisure finds delight, not only in the exquisite menu which awaits guests to the Ocean Cellar, but the set-up of the restaurant will also contribute immensely to the ultimate experience. A sleek, yet casual design with the open kitchen at its core, in a recessed area where the chefs diligently practise their craft in open view of the customers. Even the colour theme of the restaurant blends in perfectly for an ultimate seafood along the coast experience,” said Executive Chef, Dallas Orr.
This open show kitchen and eat-at-counter promises to be one of the most exciting experiences in the restaurant as guests will be facing the kitchen watching the chefs at work. There is also indoor seating, embraced by the most contemporary decor of the Strand Hotel Swakopmund’s five food and beverage outlets. The open-air veranda provides for closer view over the Atlantic Ocean and the mole at large, while the large, refreshing outdoor dining area takes you closer to the sea, allowing the diner to breathe the invigorating fresh sea air while enjoying exquisitely prepared seafood.
Chef Dallas added: “All three restaurants at the Strand Hotel Swakopmund offer unique experiences. The Brewer & Butcher will provide for a laid back ‘chilling’ adventure, while at the Farmhouse Deli you can have a great family meal in absolute quality. At times you might be in the mood for something lighter, yet more intimate and sophisticated, and of course a fresh and delightful seafood experience, which the Ocean Cellar will accommodate for.”
To keep guests in the ‘relaxing strand moment’, they can enjoy the Ocean Cellar experience in swimwear, and still feel at home. Exquisite food and wine with décor is set to make the adventure at the Ocean Cellar a life-long memory. It is about excellent seafood, including Walvis Bay oysters, sushi, sashimi and fish choices not found anywhere else in Namibia, and every dish from the comprehensive menu will have any number of good choices of accompanying wine from the extensive South African wine cellar.
The cellar at the Ocean Cellar will also host an extensive collection of South African red, white and sparkling wines to accompany any dish.
This will include a wide variety of well-known and premium wines which the guest can order by the glass, carafe or bottle.
The Ocean Cellar will thus be a showcase for South African wine, which has been a competitor in the global markets for decades. Last year the Cape Winelands earned forty-three regional awards and eight global awards in the 2014 Best of Wine Tourism awards.
