Khomasdal-based Namibia Rugby Premier League outfit Western Suburbs registered their second win of the season on Saturday, narrowly defeating coastal outfit Kudus at Suburbs Park.
Suburbs, who went into the game eighth on the log standing out of nine teams and only having won one game, put up an impressive performance to narrowly defeat Kudus with a single point after 80 minutes of entertaining rugby.
The Khomasdal-based team won the match 24-23 to remain eight’ on the log, but moved two points closer to Rehoboth who are seventh. The win saw Suburbs move to 12 points while Rehoboth is on 14 points.
The defeat meant Kudus, who have now lost their third match of the season, lost ground on the leading teams Wanderers and Unam, who are level on 38 points after eight games. Kudus are third on 27 points.
To secure their second win of the season, Western Suburbs ran in three tries, all of which were successfully converted, and added a penalty to their tally.
Their tries came from Jayden Links, Dale Cloete and Elliot Lombaardt, while Rudy Pretorious scored all three conversions and a penalty.
On Saturday, Unam beat Reho Falcons 21-17 in Rehoboth, securing maximum points on the road.
Trustco United also earned maximum points with a 39-21 victory against Rehoboth at the Trustco United field in Olympia.
At their field in Pioniers Park, log leader Wanderers once again demonstrated their dominance with a 38-27 win over Grootfontein, maintaining their top spot. They are tied with Unam on 38 points, but Unam is second in the standings.
Meanwhile, the fourth spot on the log is occupied by Reho Falcons on 24 points, closely followed by Grootfontein who are fifth with 23 points, and Trustco United, who are sixth with 20 points.
The bottom of the log standing is occupied by Simonis Storms Dolphins who are without a win and no points. -Nampa
