It was a successful day for Cohen FC in the Bank Windhoek National Fistball Championship last weekend, with the club’s teams managing to qualify for both the final of the national A and B leagues, during the final round robin matches of the championship.

The top placed teams in the national A and B leagues vied for top spot, since the first team on the log after the weekend automatically qualified for the final.

The second and third placed teams meanwhile have to play in a semifinal to determine the second finalists. Both the semifinal and the decisive championship decider are set to take place in September.

In the National A League, Cohen FC 1 started the day in first place. They showed a lacklustre performance in their first game of the day against championship rivals SKW 2. Nevertheless, they managed a well played 4:0 set win.

However, things got tougher against defending league champions SKW 1.

Cohen managed a good start to the game taking the first set before SKW came back to equalize and take the lead by winning the second and third sets. Cohen FC 1 regrouped and came back in style to win the following three sets and with that the game by 4:2 sets.

The win secured the top spot for Cohen FC 1 and with that the team qualified for the championship final. SKW 1 will have to play SKW 2 in a semi-final play-off to determine the second participant in the league final.

While the fourth placed team SFC 1 may play no further part in the championship, they put in a good performance on Saturday and are still in with a chance of improving on their current fourth place in the standings during the play-offs in September.

Cohen FC 3 dominated proceedings in the National B League. A 4:0 set win against DTS secured the team first place in the league and the coveted spot in the final of the National B League. The second finalist will be determined during a play-off match between SFC 2 and Cohen FC 4. Both teams played well on Saturday, with Cohen FC 4 surprisingly winning by 4:1 sets against their club mates Cohen FC 3.

This win was however not enough to take Cohen 4 past the second placed SFC, who managed to record victories over the weekend. The defending champions salvaged some pride by winning two of their three matches. The team moved up one spot on the log and did not end the day in last place.

The play-off games, where the new fistball champions of the national A and B league will be crowned, are scheduled for September 26. The games will be held at the DTS in Windhoek.
