Windhoek

This year’s KIA mountain bike series resumes on Saturday with the eagerly awaited Superspar Maerua Skyride MTB Marathon at Heja Lodge, some 30 kilometres east of Windhoek.

Participants will be able to choose between three different distances with the 64km advanced class that includes the elite, veteran, masters, junior and U16 categories for both male and female participants.

The 32km intermediate class includes the same categories, while the 12km fun ride has no categories, but riders need to be at least six years old. There is no timing for the fun ride.

Thus far, Raul Costa Seibeb has dominated race after race. The cyclist from Windhoek is still to lose this year.

Thanks to his incredible exploits, Seibeb sits on top of the overall men’s ranking with a comfortable 1 000 points.
Tjipe Murangi follows in second, already 520 points adrift of the log leader. Herbert Peters is third with 400.
The women’s overall ranking, on the other hand, shows a much closer contested field.

Michelle Vorster is on top after two wins (500 points), but Irene Steyn is only a mere 50 points behind her in second. Michelle Doman is third (350).

The KIA MTB series will come to a close on October 17 with the Daan Viljoen MTB Challenge. The official award ceremony is scheduled for October 28 . More information is available at www.cycletec.com.na, all bike shops and Mearua Superspar in Windhoek. Details are also available on the Facebook page.
