Supplementary registration a success in the North

Home National Supplementary registration a success in the North

ONGWEDIVA – With a day left before the end of the supplementary registration of voters, ECN regional coordinators in Oshana, Ohangwena and Omusati described the exercise as successful.

In Oshana Region, from the start of the supplementary registration until Wednesday, 4 281 new voters were registered, while 1 819 had visited the registration points for duplicates and 561 for change of address.

ECN Regional Coordinator in Oshana, Julius Shongolo said the region deployed 63 teams of which 13 are fixed 45 semi-fixed while the remaining five were mobile points.

Shongolo was content with the progress so far, particularly because there were no major problems encountered so far regarding the registration machines.

“There were no problems encountered with the machines and we had IT support in the constituency,” said Shongolo.

Shongolo urged the Oshana community, particularly the youth who had not registered yet to come and register within the remaining days.

In Omusati 6 800 voters had registered by Wednesday. ECN’s Regional Coordinator, Leonard Amutenya Ndazapo told New Era that there were no major hiccups recorded in the region.

The region has 73 teams altogether in the region of which 22 are fixed, 34 semi-fixed and 17 mobile points.

The only problems encountered was the slow pace of the computers and printers when they heat up, though these were minor problems that they were able to rectify.

Ndazapo described the supplementary registration point to have run smooth since the start on the 8th this month.

He said this time around the turn up has been good and the queues were minimal.

“The process is good. It is smooth, however, the queues were small as the large number had already been registered,” stated Ndazapo.

Ndazapo urged the community members who are 18 years and above and have not registered yet, to make use of the remaining days.

He reminded the people that people would only be able to cast their votes come November 2014, if they had registered to vote.

Ohangwena Region recorded the highest number of registered voters by Wednesday. Some 9 361 voters were registered by the 73 teams in the region. Of the 73 teams, 63 are semi-fixed while 10 are mobile.

The region’s Regional Coordinator, Hiskia Mukete said that the turnout has been good except for the first two to three days were a minimal turnout was recorded.

“The turnout is fine, but so far we are managing; there are no long queues,” said Mukete.

Mukete, just as the other regions conveyed that there were no major hiccups recorded.

“There were no major hiccups only a few minor cases were reported, but we were able to rectify them in a short time,” said Mukete.

Mukete urged people in the Ohangwena Region who had not yet registered, to do so before the supplementary registration ends on Saturday.
