A case of culpable homicide has been opened against Dirk De Wee, a 50-year-old man who lost control of the vehicle he was driving, thus killing Sagaria Phillipus, 32, last Saturday. The accident occurred at around 15h30.

According to Regional Crime Coordinator in Oshikoto Deputy Commissioner Naomi Katjiua De Wee was driving a Mazda Bakkie when he tried to avoid a head-on collision with an oncoming vehicle, causing the vehicle he was driving to overturn.

It is reported that he lost control of the vehicle, killing one of the passengers.

Katjiua said the occupants were on the way to Farm Suma, 50 km from Tsumeb to Otavi, where the deceased was employed. De Wee sustained head injuries and has since been admitted to Lombard Hospital in Tsumeb.

There were four other passengers involved; the other three sustained only slight injuries. The bakkie was pulling a trailer at the time, which was carrying five cattle. The animals were all found alive.

The Tsumeb road has experienced many accidents this year and claimed many lives.
